The end of March saw another highly successful Forum for the Future of Agriculture. The 2017 Forum attracted over 2000 participants, the largest number so far, to discuss this years theme, 'Time for solutions'. Janez Potočnik, the RISE Foundation's chairman, chaired the event.

Opening keynote addresses were given by Kofi Annan, 7th Secretary General of the United Nations (1997-2006) in the morning, and Dame Ellen MacArthur, Founder of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, in the afternoon.

One of the key sessions asked the question, 'Is the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) fit for the SDG age?'.  The keynote for this part of the conference was given by Phil Hogan and the following debate between Commissioner Hogan, RISE CAP report Director Professor Buckwell, MEP and former Chair of the EP Committee on the Environment Giovanni La Via and President  of Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Michael Prinz zu Salm Salm, was based on the latest RISE report - CAP - thinking out of the box.

Other speakers during the day included the European Commission's vice-president Jyrki Katainen, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD Mari Kiviniemi and New Zealand's minister for Primary Industries, Racing and Associate Minister for Economic Development Nathan Guy. 

A special address was given by RISE's former Chairman Franz Fischler, now President of the European Forum Alpbach and former Chair of the FFA (2008-2014). The event was moderated by journalists Stephen Sackur and Scheherazade Daneshkhu.
